Dear leaders from the White House and State Department,

I offer my highest regards and appreciation for your concern for my people. My name is Rabia Kadir, and I would like to bring to your attention the longstanding and unresolved issues faced by the Uyghur people in the United States.

  1. Over the past 10 years, Uyghurs who have applied for political asylum in the United States have not received a response to their applications for two years. The majority of Uyghurs who are unable to reunite with their families make up this group. We hope that you will enact legislation to address this issue for the Uyghur people.
  2. Uyghur refugees around the world face a very serious situation. Some countries arbitrarily detain them and hand them over to the Chinese government. Many Uyghurs are fleeing and dying in Central Asia, Turkey, and Muslim countries. All Uyghurs live under the threat of death in foreign countries and in our homeland, Uyghuristan. We urge the United States to ease visa restrictions for homeless Uyghurs and to allow 10,000 Uyghurs to come to America.
  3. In late 2013 and early 2014, the Chinese government opened a very dangerous path when Uyghur nomads fled to Thailand. Around 50,000 Uyghurs fled to Thailand and Malaysia, and they managed to escape despite the Chinese government’s efforts to prevent their departure. This was a cover-up created by the Chinese government in cooperation with certain countries. More than 20,000 Uyghurs have perished in the Middle East and elsewhere. They lack passports, language skills, and even basic Chinese proficiency. Some have survived in Turkey, but many have been killed in the Middle East. Currently, 57 people are being held in Thailand’s prison, and eight children and women have died since 2014. Those in Thailand’s prisons are being subjected to severe abuse. The United States is also involved in this matter. We request that you bring these 57 individuals from Thailand’s prison to America.

I sincerely hope that you will consider and address these issues. I thank the Biden administration for its policies towards our people.

Sincerely,

Rabia Kadir
